Sister Nivedita

in 1906, it was she who designed a prototype of the national flag with the ‘vajra’ at the centre and wrote a detailed exposition of the centrality and power of that symbol both in Hinduism and Buddhism.

She was described as

  1. `a real lioness' by Vivekananda,
  2. `Lokmata'(the mother of the people) by Rabindranath Tagore, and
  3. `Agnisikha' (the flame of fire) by Aurobindo Ghose.
  4. In England she was known as `The Champion for India',
  5. Sister' to the Indian people whom she loved. H
